Student Counselling, Special Education & Well-Being at St. Joan’s School

At St. Joan’s School, the emotional, social, and learning needs of every child are valued as deeply as academic success. Our teachers, staff, School Counsellor, and Special Educator work together with one shared purpose—to help students grow into confident, resilient, and capable individuals.

In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) and our duty of care, counselling and learning support are integral parts of school life, just like classroom teaching, sports, and co-curricular activities.

Why Counselling & Special Education Matter

Every child learns and grows differently. Modern students may face academic pressure, learning gaps, peer relationships, attention challenges, or emotional concerns. Our support system provides:

  • A safe and confidential space for students to express themselves
  • Guidance to manage stress, anxiety, friendships, and academic expectations
  • Individualised learning strategies through the Special Educator
  • Early identification of learning, behavioural, or emotional needs
  • Collaboration with teachers to ensure inclusive classrooms

Our approach is preventive, supportive, and child-centred—helping every learner thrive.

Role of the School Counsellor

The Counsellor supports students by:

  • Helping them cope with exam stress and social challenges
  • Building confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence
  • Offering guidance on behaviour, motivation, and self-esteem
  • Partnering with parents and teachers for holistic development

As part of the school’s duty of care and child-wellbeing framework, the School Counsellor may interact with and provide guidance to students during the course of regular school life without the need for separate parental consent, just as any teacher or member of the student support team would do.

The counsellor is a friendly mentor and guide, available whenever a child needs support.

Role of the Special Educator

The Special Educator ensures that no child is left behind by:

  • Identifying individual learning styles and needs
  • Providing targeted academic support and accommodations
  • Working with teachers to adapt lesson plans and assessments
  • Supporting students with learning difficulties, attention concerns, or developmental delays
  • Guiding parents with strategies to help learning at home

This inclusive approach reflects our belief that every child can succeed with the right support.

Benefits for Students

Through counselling and special education support, students gain:

  • Better focus, organisation, and study skills
  • Tools to manage emotions and relationships
  • Improved classroom engagement and confidence
  • Personalised learning pathways
  • Stronger resilience, empathy, and independence

Benefits for Parents

Parents receive:

  • Holistic care for their child—academic + emotional + learning support
  • Clear understanding of strengths and areas of growth
  • Early guidance if challenges arise
  • A collaborative partnership between home and school

Our Commitment

St. Joan’s School believes that every child deserves to feel heard, supported, and understood. Counselling and special education are not remedial labels—they are positive, empowering pillars of modern education that help each student achieve their personal best.

Together, we create an inclusive school where children grow with courage, kindness, and confidence.
