Sports & Physical Education
Active CISCE & NEP 2020: Sports and Physical Education at St. Joan’s School
Healthy Body. Healthy Mind. Stronger Learners.
At St. Joan’s School, we believe that a child’s education is incomplete without movement, play, and physical fitness. In line with CISCE expectations and the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), sports and physical education are a core part of school life—not an “extra”.
We actively promote a Healthy Body – Healthy Mind culture because physically active children tend to be more focused, confident, resilient, and emotionally balanced.
Why Sports Matter in School
NEP 2020 strongly encourages holistic development—academic, physical, social, and emotional. Our sports programme supports this by helping students build:
- Fitness, stamina, strength, and coordination
- Discipline, resilience, and self-confidence
- Teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship
- Stress management and emotional well-being
- Healthy routines that reduce sedentary habits and excess screen dependence
For us, the playground is an extension of the classroom—where students learn life skills that last.
Our Approach: Active CISCE-Aligned Physical Education
St. Joan’s School offers a structured, age-appropriate programme that includes:
- Regular Physical Education periods across classes
- Fitness activities, drills, and skill-building sessions
- Yoga, stretching, and mindfulness modules
- Inter-house events, matches, and competitions
- Opportunities for students to train and represent the school
- A strong focus on participation, progress, and personal best
Inclusive Sports for Every Student
True inclusion means every child participates. We encourage students of all ability levels and provide support through:
- Adapted activities where required
- Encouragement and goal-setting for beginners
- A positive environment that values effort and improvement
Safety, Discipline and Sportsmanship
We teach students to play safely and respectfully. Our programme reinforces:
- Safe warm-ups, hydration, and injury prevention habits
- Respect for rules, coaches, teammates, and opponents
- The importance of fair play and self-control
Partnering with Parents
Parents play a vital role in building healthy habits. We encourage families to:
- Promote daily physical activity at home
- Support participation in school sports and fitness days
- Maintain healthy sleep routines and balanced nutrition
- Limit excessive screen time
When school and home work together, children thrive.
Our Commitment
St. Joan’s School is committed to developing healthy, confident, and capable learners who are prepared for life—not just exams. Through CISCE- and NEP-aligned physical education, we create an environment where students can move, play, grow, and learn every day.
